The Pinstripes Sweet Cincy Ska

How often do Cincinnatians get some serious Ska slapped in their face? Not nearly often enough. Five Cincy local boys that go by the name Pinstripes can slap some Ska on you so hard it will make your momma cry... seriously.
Cincy Vibe was front row center for the Pinstripes show at Play by Play Cafe and damn if it didn’t rock! For one thing the lighting in this joint is spot on. The Pinstripes performance on stage was worthy of a $20 a ticket Bogarts show. Not that we wouldn’t rather be at Play by Play. The place has gone through quite a remodel since Tommy had it for ages under the name Never On Sunday. We remember it well.

The Pinstripes talent level isn’t apparent by the look of the youthful band members. They look more high school than new school Ska. Fact is they have turned out two nice CD releases; The Decay (07’) and Midwest Soundclash (09’). You can check out both at www.thepinstripes.net not to mention the band’s upcoming schedule. It looks relentless! Just in March alone The Pinstripes play 19 shows in 16 cities across nine states. They’ll be here at Mad Hatter’s March 1st playing with Fishbone, The English Beat and Outlaw Nation. After that it’s off to Michigan, Ohio and Indiana then to Pennsylvania on the 18th. From there on it’s a tour of NY and all the east coast states then back to our parts on April 3rd at Molly Malone’s and the Southgate House on April 10th. This band is movin’ and grovin’ that’s for damn sure.

The live performance energy buzzes hard & strong. Couple that energy with fresh raw talent and add in a fast tappin’ snare beat, a trio of horns, a screaming guitar, back it all up with a reggae bass bump, shout out some rowdy vocals in time with it all and you get a rockin’ symphony of Ska.. Cincinnati Ska. Just think of it, our Cincy boys are going to be bringing it on to the Ska fans out in Brooklyn NY, not to mention PA, MA, CT, RI and NJ. Their bringing Cincy ska back to where ska got started. That’s just awesome.

Any self respecting Ska fan that lives local enough to read this rag should already know who the Pinstripes are, if you’re reading and you don’t know, you need to know, that’s why we’re telling you now. Get out to the few local shows The Pinstripes have booked here. If you miss those your in for a real road trip to catch up with these guys. Of course, there is always the website www.thepinstripes.net for the lazy but ska-curious. There is a fist full of decent vids on youtube too.
