Rumpke Mountain Boys

This cool bluegrass band falls under the (self-titled) category “Trashgrass” (either named after Rumpke’s giant trash mountain or after the love & pursuit of the mental state of trashed depending who you talk to). “Infamous Trashgrass” to be exact. RMB’s acoustic stringed stylings have little to do with Bill Monroe and much to do with the tye dyed jam bands of the past & present. Phish, Dead, Tom Waits and Jimmy Cliff. The RMB’s originals ain’t too shabby either. Local grass fans already know & love the Rumpke Mountaineers, they’ve been around for over a decade.
Those who are fresh to the local grass scene will want to take notice. These boys are arguably the most booked, most attended band of this kine in the area. Energetic performances, unusual set lists and late night after parties are keys to their success. Not to mention maintaining schedules in and out of the state shows and damn near every music festival that matters.
I’ll say one thing, it doesn’t matter if they are at a big festival or a small club, they play just as enthusiastically, almost as if they are really playing just for themselves. Their show brings out the grass freak in every audience member, it’s hard to not get caught up in the show, the dances, the collective buzz, the freedom vibe rings loud throughout whatever venue they take over for the night, you gotta love it.
You won’t find much on their audio-less/video-less page on facebook (www.facebook.com/pages/Rumpke-Mountain-Boys) and the ridiculously outdated (last updated 12-09) www.rumpke.ning.com which contains basically nothing. Rumpke Mountain’s myspace.com/rumpkemountainboys is where it’s at.
On the myspace page you’ll find great quality audio and consistent updates. All the tunes are 1st rate and then some.
