Jerry’s Little Band flat out rocks. We’ll just say that right off the bat.
Dark Star Orchestra goes to unbelievable effort in their Grateful Dead tribute shows. They reproduce an old Dead show exactly as it was played live at the time, set list, improvisation, instruments and all.
For Jerry’s Little band it just seems to come more natural. They don’t replicate shows but they damn sure replicate the energy and the vibe.
We caught the show at Latitudes Anderson. We were wondering if we would see more of this awesome jam band action at Latitudes since the Khoury brothers took it over. They are both huge fans and we’ve always felt they should let the place reflect their tastes.

They are booking lots of their favorite bands and the Jerry’s Little Band Grateful Dead Party turned out to be a true feather in their new hat.
Sam and Cory both knew it was going to be a blast and for the first time in a long time they actually took the night off and partied with the crowd. When the owners take off work just to party with the band you know the show is something special.
The band dates back to the early 80’s with members from local jam bands of the past, Speedway Boogie, Crazy Fingers, Curve West, The Drysdale’s, Wildweeds, Slamhammer & Backstreet. Eventually these seasoned musicians came together from a shared love of the Grateful Dead and found a good groove with Jerry’s Little Band. They have been jammin’ in Cincinnati under that name since 1994.

The band consists of Chris Perme-guitar & vocals, Jeff Monroe-drums & vocals, Gery Leistner-keyboards & vocals, Tom Callahan-bass & vocals & Andrew Newbold-guitar & vocals. Notice how all the band members have vocals after their instrument? They all sing and that adds an authentic “Dead” dimension to the show. Damn if they can’t play too.
Besides the marvelous musicianship what makes the Jerry’s Little Band show so special is the fact that these guys mix in a lot of deep tracks like The Other One, Deal, Eyes Of The World, Throwing Stones and Ramble On Rose with the more traditional tunes like Sugar Magnolia, Uncle Johns Band and the like. Even hard core Dead Heads will dig it. They also throw in a few Bob Dylan, Stones and Phish tunes too.

One such hard core fan Mike “The Madman” Patterson drove all the way from Bethel to see the show. From the first note to last Mike’s shoes never strayed off the dance floor. Mike says “I saw it in the EV... we (Mike and wife Summer) got a baby sitter right away because we weren’t going to miss it”. Well Mike guess what! Jerry’s Little Band is back at Latitudes for a very special Halloween weekend show on October 30th. The special event features a Dead themed costume contest (with cash prizes). The crowd is encouraged to dress as their favorite Dead member or Dead song character. Halloween shows were always a special show on the Grateful Dead tours, this local tribute show is sure to carry on the same spirit.
